Print design is always evolving. Something that looked trendy last year might look dated today. Here’s what you can expect to see in the print design world in 2017.
Bright and bold colours
2016 saw muted, understated palettes gradually give way to more vibrant colours. In 2017, we’ll see designs become even more brighter and bolder. Bright neons or pastels and more saturated colours will give designs a more 80s look, than the mid 50s feel of previous years.
What was nerdy a few years ago is cool today. Expect to see top designers drawing inspiration from styles that were popular from the ’70s to the ‘90s. Pixelated graphics, space themes, and retro pop culture are making a comeback to tie in with modern tastes.
White or empty space has always been effective in design if used well. Designers are beginning to use negative space, where images are created by shapes formed between the graphics, rather than by the graphics themselves. This technique will make your design stand out from more conventional styles.
Independent brands and original products are getting a lot of attention in today’s marketplace. Think craft beers and small retailers. The same trend continues into design, with hand-drawn illustrations and original imagery replacing stock images and clip-art.
